The Secure Access Card is Mercantil Commercebank’s latest safety feature, exclusively designed to protect the identity and online transactions of our Personal Online Banking Customers. It is available online and adds an extra layer of protection to the log-in process, in addition to your User ID and Password. This new security tool provides our customers with a unique combination of numbers and letters through an individual Secure Access Card. Once activated, it will protect you with a second step in the authentication of your identity, preventing unauthorized access to
your account(s).
Your Card is personal and not transferable, offering up to 1225 combinations exclusively available for your individual use only. When carrying out electronic transactions that require a high level of protection, such as Personal Online Bill Pay and eBills* or Third Party I-Wire Transfers, you will be safer using your unique number combination.

If you have a plastic version of the Secure Access Card, you may continue to use it without having to replace it with its digital version.
Request your Secure Access Card
To obtain your Secure Access Card online, your computer must be connected to a printer. The card is generated online, and you will only have one opportunity to see it on your computer screen and print it. You will also have the opportunity to print the Quick Guide which will provide you with information about the Card and will assist you in the use of your card.
Personal Online Banking customers are issued a Secure Access Card based on their expressed needs to conduct online transactions that require a high level of protection, such as Personal Online Bill Pay, eBills* and Third Party I-Wire Transfers. If you would like to receive a Secure Access Card to safeguard your banking transactions online, simply contact our
Online Support Call Center.
It is important to note that each time you request a Secure Access Card, whether as a replacement or in the form of a new Card, any previously issued Card (whether in the form of a plastic or digital version) will be automatically suspended on our system. When a new Card is generated, any previously issued Card on your profile will be inoperable. Only the Card which was issued last will be valid upon activation.
Using your Secure Access Card
The following electronic transaction or services require the use of a Secure Access Card:
- Personal Online Bill Pay and eBills* (this service is available for U.S. customers only)
- Third Party I-Wire Transfers via Personal Banking Online
You must:
- Always have your Secure Access Card handy
- Access the transaction you seek
- Enter the two (2) requested coordinates in the online virtual keyboard at log-in
By following this simple steps, our Online and Telephone Banking services will identify you as a customer and will verify that you are interacting with Mercantil Commercebank Online.
If you mistakenly enter the wrong coordinates three (3) consecutive times, you will need to contact our Customer Call Center to unlock your Secure Access Card.
Security Recommendations
- Do not give your Secure Access Card to anyone
- Do not store the image of your Secure Access Card in electronic devices such as computers that may be exposed to viruses
Please note that Mercantil Commercebank will never ask you to provide your Secure Access Card coordinates or serial card information via any means including: out-bound emails or telephone calls, or faxes. Should you be asked to provide this information, please report it to our Customer Call Center immediately.
