MERCANTIL COMMERCEBANK INCREASES CAPITAL BY $50 MILLION
Total Capital of the Bank is now $655 Million

Coral Gables, FL - December 14, 2009

Mercantil Commercebank, one of the largest Banks based in South Florida with $5.9 billion in assets, announced an increase of $50 million in capital from its holding company, Mercantil Commercebank Florida Bancorp, to reach a total of $655 million when added to the capital level of September 30th.

The increase in capital to $655 represents a 20.4% increase over the same period last year. Mercantil Commercebank’s Tier 1 Leverage Ratio will be 10.4%, or more than double the regulatory threshold for a ‘well capitalized’ bank. Under regulatory standards, a bank is considered well capitalized if its Tier 1 Leverage Ratio (tangible equity over total assets) is 5% or higher.

“Our high levels of capitalization, combined with a liquid balance sheet, puts us in a unique position to expand in our target markets and to continue to serve our customer’s increasing credit needs,” said Millar Wilson, Mercantil Commercebank President and CEO.
