Coral Gables, FL - March 24, 2009
Mercantil Commercebank, one of the largest privately held banks in South Florida, was recently honored by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC), receiving the Chamber’s Top 100 Minority Business Awards®.
As noted by the GMCC, the awards highlight and celebrate South Florida’s minority business community and the region’s rich diversity and spirit of entrepreneurship. Out of 100 companies classified as finalists, 10 companies won awards in a variety of categories, Mercantil Commercebank among them wining the Employee Workplace Initiative category.
"We are truly honored by this recognition,” said Millar Wilson, President & CEO
Mercantil Commercebank. “It underscores the importance we place on maintaining a positive and constructive working climate where our staff can develop its full potential.”
The Employee Workplace Initiatives winner criteria states that the Bank has worked in synergy with the Great Place to Work Institute® (GPTW) since 2005, continuously investing in its staff’s professional advancement, and in venues to maintain a receptive, productive, and positive working environment. Working with the GPTW institute, the Bank is cognizant of the staff member’s opinions and the company’s working climate. The objective is to measure staff members’ satisfaction with the organization practices, among other variables, and enhance those that
need support.
The Chamber’s Top 100 Minority Business Awards® recipients were recognized after a comprehensive application process in which the Bank elaborated on its achievements as a leading financial institution in South Florida, and its initiatives to support its staff members.
“Companies like yours make our local economy tick….I salute you for your personal dedication and investment in South Florida,” said Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Chairman Carlos Fernandez-Guzman, in a letter to the award recipients.
