Miami, FL - March 12, 2009
Mercantil Commercebank, one of the largest privately held banks in South Florida, recently supported a Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build 2009 event in Jordan Commons, one of the largest Habitat communities in Miami-Dade County.
Last year, Mercantil Commercebank also participated in the organization’s Blitz Build. The Bank’s total donations of $386,000 since 2007 have built several Habitat homes throughout Miami-Dade County. In addition to direct home sponsorships, the Bank’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity has provided over $800,000 in zero-interest rate mortgage loans to Habitat, funding mortgages to low income families.
“Supporting Habitat in their initiative to provide safe housing for families in need is a commitment we are honored to fulfill,” said Ed Holden, EVP Manager, Personal & Commercial Banking of Mercantil Commercebank, and a member of Habitat’s Board of Directors. “It has been a privilege to assist them for over 13 years.”
The Blitz Build is Habitat's premier construction event, during which Habitat homeowners, staff, sponsors, and over 200 volunteers per day, join efforts to build ten homes during a two-week period, speeding up the completion of a187- home development.
“Mercantil Commercebank is a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity,” said Michelle Marcos, Communications Director for Habitat for Humanity. “We not only appreciate their financial support, but their personal hands-on involvement with the organization.”
