Mercantil Commercebank OPENS NEW 100,000 SQUARE FOOT OPERATIONS CENTER

Miami, FL - March 21, 2008

Mercantil Commercebank, one of the largest privately held banks in South Florida, recently announced the grand opening of a new 100,000 square foot Operations Center at the Beacon Lakes Business Park, located at 12496 NW 25th Street.

The facility was designed to accommodate the expansion needs of several departments of the Bank that have experience substantial growth, and to provide business continuity to the Bank’s customers, specifically in the event of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane.
The Data Center, the heart of customer information, was built as a building-within-a-building, equipped to resist category 5 hurricane winds.

Natural gas twin generators will support the computer room, call center, and other key areas throughout the building, all within an extremely energy-efficient framework, including self-adjusting air cooling features.
Housing a team of more than 550 staff members, the new facility includes a spacious gourmet-style lunch cafeteria with an adjacent patio area overlooking a lake, and seating for 200.  Additional features include 16 separate conference rooms and parking for up to 600 vehicles.

“The new Operations Center further conveys to our customers our commitment to ensure continuity of service, while our staff members can enjoy a comfortable working environment,” says J. Guillermo Villar, President and CEO of Mercantil Commercebank.  “We are very pleased with the new facility at Beacon Lakes.”
Mercantil Commercebank is also one of the area’s top employers, with almost 1,000 staff members, most of them in South Florida, and the rest in New York and Houston.
