Bank's executives and players gather at Habitat's Annual "Blitz Build" at Scott Carver Community

Miami, FL - January 28, 2008

Mercantil Commercebank N.A., one of the largest privately held banks in South Florida, donated today $85,000 to  sponsor a Habitat home at Scott Carver Community for the organization’s 10th annual ‘Blitz Build’. The Blitz is Habitat’s annual accelerated construction event, with a goal of completing ten homes in two weeks. Such is one of two homes that the Bank is sponsoring in 2008 with total donations to exceed $170,000. In 2007, the Bank also sponsored a home in Scott Carver Community.

A check donation for $85,000 was presented to Andrea Williams, owner of the Habitat home,  by Ed Holden, Manager, Personal & Commercial Banking, Mercantil Commercebank; the  Miami Heat Players, Chris Quinn, Cory Blount, and Alexander Johnson; and other executives from the Bank..

Nearly 200 volunteers participated in the 10th annual event, including the Heat players, which helped to build a home for a family in need along side Mercantil Commercebank.

“We have supported Habitat for Humanity for more than 12 years,” said Ed Holden, Manager, Personal & Commercial Banking, Mercantil Commercebank, and a member of Habitat’s Board of Directors.  “Today’s event confirms our continued support and willingness to participate in such an important endeavor.”

In addition to the individual home sponsorships, Mercantil Commercebank partnership with Habitat for Humanity to date has provided over $800m in zero-percent interest loans to low income families, becoming the organization’s largest “Banking on Habitat” partner.

“Mercantil Commercebank has been a partner of Habitat for Humanity for many years,” says Mia Battle of Habitat for Humanity. “In fact, Ms. Williams’ home is Mercantil Commercebank’s third home in Scott-Carver alone.  It is because of the generosity of organizations like theirs that we are able to continue this ministry.”
